POLITI OSO

POLITI OSO

POLITI OSO featuring the works of master artist Faith Ringgold and Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson :: B2 gallery explores the “alarm bells of consciousness” through idioms of feminism, race, culture, religion, and the body politic - If there was ever a time for art to talk about race — with Donald Trump on a roll and the Black Lives Matter movement growing — now would be a crucial time. With that backdrop, Tacoma’s B2 Fine Art Gallery speaks with the voices of two elder stateswomen of African American art: Aminah Robinson and Faith Ringgold. With a poetic language of fabric, paint,...

WINTER POP UP SERIES

WINTER POP UP SERIES

Winter Pop-Up at B2 Fine Art Gallery is a surprisingly rich collection of sculpture, basketry and pottery by (mostly) artists who are new to the Tacoma art scene — the one exception being longtime local favorite Ric Hall, who is showing here totally new work never before seen and a radical departure from what we’re used to seeing from him. SUMMER POP UP SERIES :: CELEBRATION OF REGIONAL ARTISTS EXHIBITION

SUMMER POP UP SERIES :: CELEBRATION OF REGIONAL ARTISTS EXHIBITION

The difference between what B2 Gallery is calling it’s “Pop-Up” shows and its regular shows is 1) the Pop-Ups don’t run as long and 2) the art is more reasonably priced. As for the quality of the art, there is little or no difference. The Pop-Up running through Sept. 26 features art by Hiawatha D, Leah Fitts, Francesca Fuller, Joe Gallagher, Hossein Peigahi, Becky Knold, and jeweler Delores Weir. It’s a fun show. Peigahi’s colorful and stylized READ MORE

DRIVEN TO ABSTRACT :: B2 GALLERY SHOWCASES DIVERSE PAINTERS

DRIVEN TO ABSTRACT :: B2 GALLERY SHOWCASES DIVERSE PAINTERS

By ALEC CLAYTON :: Weekly Volcano :: July 31, 2015 I'm so tempted to make a play on words from the title of this show, but gallery owners Gary and Deborah Boone beat me to the punch.  "Driven to Abstraction" showcases the works of three painters whose common thread is abstraction but whose approaches to art are quite diverse. read more

ABSTRACT PAINTING FEATURED AT B2 FINE ART

ABSTRACT PAINTING FEATURED AT B2 FINE ART

Dave R. Davison Wednesday, 22 July 2015 __________________ It was not that long ago that abstract art was the dominant trend in painting. Devotees of the so-called New York school taught the tenants of abstraction from positions in the art departments of the universities and a generation of painters was suckled on the milk of abstraction. The arc art of history was seen as the story of how artists came to free themselves from the tyranny of the outer subject and became liberated – able to immerse themselves in a world of pure paint. Painting was pared down to its most basic elements: color,...

Tacoma’s B2 Fine Art Gallery celebrates five years

Tacoma’s B2 Fine Art Gallery celebrates five years

Tacoma News Tribune :: July 22, 2015 BY ROSEMARY PONNEKANTI Staff writer _________________ It’s been hard keeping a dedicated private art gallery going in Tacoma over the last few years. Traditional galleries like Traver and Sandpiper have closed and hipster venues like Fulcrum have become sporadic, leaving the scene largely comprised of temporary Spaceworks sites, corporate-gallery-cum-frame shops and artist cooperatives, with a few businesses squeezing in art on the side. Enter B2 Fine Art Gallery, which opened five years ago and has managed to rotate a stable of around 45 national and international...

B2’s AHOY! :: Maritime Art for a Maritime City

B2’s AHOY! :: Maritime Art for a Maritime City

Dave R. Davison Wednesday, 22 April 2015 Tacoma is a maritime city. We are accustomed to the sight of all manner of aquatic vessels out on Commencement Bay or in the Tacoma Narrows. Sail boats and other pleasure craft mingle with fishing boats. The great container ships and grain ships engage with their mysterious, slow motion dance with tugboats and launches. Salish canoes, kayaks, paddleboards and jet skis ply the waters close to shore. The occasional tall ship, whose tall masts blossom with swollen sails, cast us backward in time and allow a glimpse of how the first peoples must have seen...

Art Review :: B2 gallery’s “Bare: A Boudoir Exhibition” goes beyond bedroom nudes

Art Review :: B2 gallery’s “Bare: A Boudoir Exhibition” goes beyond bedroom nudes

ROSEMARY PONNEKANTI Staff Writer :: Friday, 27 February 2015 If ever an art show didn’t need a subtitle, it’s “Bare.” Sure, there’s a lot of flesh in B2 Gallery’s latest group show, but it’s not all straight out of the boudoir, in the traditional, lace negligee sense of the word. Cerebral adoration, doughy sadness, mystical shadows, fierce athleticism, even ironic porn, yes — but if you go looking for cheap thrills, you’ll get your expectations blown out of the water by artists of the caliber of Guy Anderson, Paul Dahlquist and Francisco Zuniga, who use nudity to bare the human...

Art Review :: Visual Edge: “BARE: A Boudoir Exhibition” at B2 Fine Art Gallery, A show of nudes in drawing, sculpture, painting and photography

ALEC CLAYTON Staff Writer :: Monday, 09 February 2015 Maybe I shouldn't review this latest show at B2 Fine Art because I am in the show, but not reviewing it would not be fair to the gallery or the other participating artists. So I won't mention my own work other than to say it is an honor to be included in a show with artists of such stature. Read more...
