Margaret Nation is a Native American traditional beading Artist, regalia maker, and Professional Fancy Dancer. She is a member of the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes of Montana. The Sioux Nation was among the first people to trade for beads. Continuing in the family tradition, Margaret learned to bead at the age of 13. Over the years, she developed her own contemporary geometric beading style blended with traditional colors.
Even though I always beaded, I didn’t see it as a way of healing and giving until 2010, after the tragic passing of my son. It helped me through that difficult time. I enjoy teaching Natives who may be struggling with their own issues and teaching young people as a way to hang on to our culture and traditional way of life. All my work is clean and sober. I thank God for this opportunity to share what I have learned from my family and other artists.”
