Mary is an artist with an unwavering point of view concerned with the beginnings of art where narration and magic fuse into a totemic power. This point of view has remained constant and has been translated by her into several mediums.
The primal expressionist style clearly shows her forceful, symbolic shapes which is characteristic too much of her mature work. She has this same impact on canvases and in silk screen and the dramatic intensity of her linocut prints, hand rubbed with a wooden spoon.
In the early 70’s Mary Pacios returned to figurative imagery expressing venerable lines, blending primitive intensity and mythological symbolism. The combination of tribal ritual and classical expression gives the work of this period a sense of suspended fierceness.
